You know who is the worst about censoring the Bible? It’s not the government, public schools, athiests, or agnostics.
It’s me.
I read the parts that are nice, the parts where I know Jesus shows compassion, love, and mercy (the miracles of the Gospels). I read the parts about blessings and forgiveness (the beattitudes). I don’t read the parts about God’s jealousy (any Old Testament prophet) and our responsibilities as believers (Romans 14:8). I want God to be always what I consider “nice.” I cling to the safetynet of complacency I’ve hung for myself. I put him in the box I’ve created for him where everything makes sense and nothing bad ever happens to good people.
Should we just rip some parts out? We don’t read them. When we skip the tough parts, does it hurt God? Is he aching for us to know him as he is, all of him? Are we too selfish to look for him? for truth?
