Mary’s Musings

She’s up to something…

EDGE April 27, 2009

“What is she so excited about?” you may have asked yourself. Well let me share with you more about PIONEERS and how I will be mentoring towards missions.

PIONEERS was founded in 1979 with the purpose of sending career missionaries overseas to plant churches in countries where the church is nonexistent or not able to reproduce itself. To date we have grown to an international movement with sending bases in Canada, Brazil, Hungary, Singapore, Australia, New Zealand, Ghana and the USA. We have nearly 1500 personnel on the field in 72 countries.

The Edge is the short term division of PIONEERS-USA, specifically designed to give young adults a 6-10 week exposure to life on the field as a career missionary. Our hope is that Edge participants will grow in their passion for God, view of the world, and understanding of themselves as they learn and serve.

As part of the Edge staff, I will help communicate regularly with the teams overseas, process applications, coach students through support raising, coordinate travel schedules, purchase travel insurance, prepare students for their summer abroad, and pray for them as they go. After completing an orientation program, each Edge team is received by long term workers who oversee their field internship for 4-8 weeks. Each team then returns to Orlando for a debrief program, which completes their summer experience.
